• Affordable Low-Cost Health Insurance for Children

Health care insurance is a vital necessity for every individual in the United States, yet an estimated that 47 million Americans are without it. Approximately 9 million children are currently without insurance in our country because their parents cannot afford a policy. Uninsured children often grow up more inclined to develop heath conditions, poor dental care, behavioral or mental health issues, and physical maladies.
Children need healthcare provision so they might receive the proper physical, emotional, and preventative care necessary for their growing bodies. There are currently two children’s health insurance programs offering great income-based coverage.

    Medicaid
Medicaid coverage is for children under the age of 21, living below the federal poverty level ($18,310 for a family of 3 in 2009). Children under 6 years of age are eligible for this same coverage if family income is below 133% of the federal poverty line (24,413 for a family of 3 in 2009).
Medicaid provides complete and comprehensive health services for children. These include preventive care, screening, treatment of health conditions, hospital visits, physician expense, and vision and dental care. Most of these services cost little or no extra money. Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
This program provides low-cost health coverage for children in families that earn too much income to qualify for Medicaid, but are not able to afford private health insurance coverage. Children can only apply for CHIP coverage if they are currently uninsured. Each state creates the payment levels and determines the eligibility parameters of their state’s CHIP coverage. All CHIP programs provide routine check-ups, immunizations, inpatient/outpatient hospital care, lab and x-ray services, and dental coverage. Co-payments and shared premium expenses are part of the CHIP coverage cost, though coverage provides free preventive care visits and procedures.
